What are Green Chickpeas?

green garbanzo beansGreen Chickpeas are young garbanzo beans harvested at their peak of freshness and are nutrition packed! For the first time these delicious and nutritious beans are now available in your grocery freezer.

Nature’s Classic Green Chickpeas have a more flavorful taste than regular canned garbanzo beans. They are harvested early, and frozen quickly before the natural sugars turn to starch.

Thanks to innovative harvesting techniques, our green chickpeas are now available year round to consumers. Traditionally, fresh green chickpeas have been a seasonally offered item and only in regions that grew them, where they were generally seen shocked and sold still in the pod.

Part of a Healthy Lifestyle

Nature’s Classic Green Chickpeas are higher in beneficial nutritional categories than the common canned blonde garbanzo bean. They are high in fibre, and naturally low in fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium, promoting a healthy heart.

Being an excellent source of fibre, green chickpeas beans contribute to satiety, helping to maintain a healthy weight. They are an excellent source of folate (vitamin B9) and contain antioxidant vitamins A & C along with good-for-you phytonutrients. They are an all-natural non-allergenic fresh source of protein. A good source of iron, they contain other minerals such as magnesium, potassium, and calcium for healthy blood and bones.

Green Chickpeas are NON-GMO, gluten free and allergen free.

Sustainably Farmed in the USA

green garbanzo beans farmNature’s Classic Green Chickpeas have been carefully nurtured on small family farms in the USA without the use of harmful insecticides. The chickpea plant naturally fixes atmospheric nitrogen, replenishing it into the soil. This nitrogen fixing ability reduces commercial fertilizer usage by farmers as part of their crop rotation by naturally replenishing nitrogen in the soil that has been depleted by other crops.

The chickpea plant has an unusually deep growing tap root which allows water to percolate deeper into the soil for improved moisture retention and provides a natural filter for our aquifers. The water that does replenish aquifers is not tainted by chemicals used in fertilizers, providing cleaner water.

Non GMO. What does that mean?

Non-GMO indicates that we do not use genetically altered garbanzo bean seeds, nor do we modified the structure of the bean at any point in our research, development and production process. Genetically modified fruits and vegetables are bioengineered in order to create seeds and plants that are resistant to insects and disease, simplify weed control and extend shelf life. Currently, there is not enough published research on the long-term effects of GMOs. Learn more about GMO.
